Application of UHPLC Fast Separations to Drive Lab Efficiency.


The September 2008 CSSC meeting will be held at the 95 Gathering Place in Wallingford, CT.  The meeting will feature a technical presentation by Dr. Jackson D. Pellett of Pfizer Global Research & Development in Groton, Connecticut, as well as dinner.  The cost of the meeting is $30 ($15 Students and Emeritus) and is to be paid at the event.

Application of UHPLC Fast Separations to Drive Lab Efficiency

In 2004, Waters Corporation introduced an LC system that could operate at pressures high enough to make better use of small particle (<2 micron) technology.  Since then, Pfizer (along with many other pharmaceutical companies) have been using Ultra High Performance Chromatography (UHPLC) to improve chromatographic resolution, increase sample throughput and all around improve laboratory productivity.

Several examples of UHPLC based laboratory efficiency enhancements will be presented, including: High Temperature UHPLC, column screening systems, and formulation comparison.  In addition, considerations for UHPLC Analytical Method Transfer Exercises (AMTEs) will be discussed.

 

 

 

 


Biography:

Jackson Pellett is a Senior Principal Scientist in Pfizer Global Research & Development in Groton, CT.  He received his BS in Biochemistry from Denison University in 1995 and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 2000 under the direction of the late Prof. Marian T. Stankovich. In his graduate studies, Jackson used spectroelectrochemical techniques to characterize the redox properties of flavoproteins involved in fatty acid metabolism. His career in pharmaceutical science began in the Analytical R&D labs in Pfizer’s Ann Arbor, MI site where he supported early development compounds. Jackson moved to Groton in 2006 to focus on late-stage drug product candidates, working more closely with formulators and commercial manufacturing sites to develop robust products and measurement systems. Recent interests include implementing strategies for rapid development of chromatographic methods and real-time-release.
