Abstract:

Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry: Unique Selectivity for Fast Multiple Target Compound Analysis in Food, Environmental, and Biomedical Applications.

Dr. Hans-Joachim Hübschmann, the author of the “Handbook of GC/MS: Fundamentals and Applications” (Wiley, 2008, 2nd Ed.) and GC/MS Technology Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Bremen, Germany, will present overview of applications from the cutting edge triple quadrupole mass spectrometry technology, including discussion of highly resolved precursor ion selection (H-SRM), fast acquisition speeds for up to 3000 SRMs in one run, triggering data-dependant full scan MS/MS (with dynamic exclusion) and the data dependent acquisition modes for a Quantitation-Enhanced MS/MS Detection (QED-MS/MS), and reversed energy ramp (RER) generation of MSMS spectra for the simultaneous quantitation and structural confirmation.  Use of H-SRM triggered product ion scans on the TSQ Quantum Access minimizes the potential for “false positive” results, especially when analyzing complex samples.  The “500 pesticides method” using TSQ Quantum GC will be presented as an example of a highly sensitive and fast multi component analysis.  The large HPLC injection volume capabilities (1 mL to 20 mL), eliminating the need for laborious and expensive offline pre-concentration will be discussed in context of LC-MS/MS Analysis of Herbicides in Drinking Water at femtogram levels.  The application of Reversed Energy Ramp scan function using static collision energy will be exemplified on data from monitoring of active substances and their metabolites in complex matrices from serum, blood, and urine.  Lastly, some data on metabolomics work will be presented in a comparative fashion between triple quad and high resolution mass spectrometry technologies.
