| Abstract:
This presentation is an overview of the principles of fast LC and LC/MS from the standpoint of the chromatographer. The importance of a high-quality separation is stressed, and it is demonstrated how high-powered separations can be achieved in a very short analysis time, down to 1 minute. The theory of fast gradient separations is outlined. On the more practical side, it is shown how MS ion-suppression or enhancement can be measured.

| Biography:
Dr. Neue is an expert in the field of HPLC with over 30 years experience in the technology. He started in HPLC in the pioneering times at the Institute of Applied Physical Chemistry of the University of Saarbrücken with Prof. Istvan Halasz and Prof. Heinz Engelhardt. He joined Waters Corporation in 1976. During his career at Waters, he worked on stationary phases, column packing technology, and applications, from sample preparation to method development. He has written the book on “HPLC Columns”, published in 1997. He is member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Chromatography and the Journal of Separation Science. His work has resulted in over 100 papers and book chapters in the field of chromatography, most of them published in the last few years. Current interests are ultra-fast separations, preparative chromatography, sample preparation and stationary phases.
